SXSW

The Engineer and I had considered heading to Austin for the SXSW music and film festival at some point. My favorite band will be playing, after all, and there are two parties that made me nostalgic: the Planet Québec one and the M for Montréal one (“So Montreal might be cold during winter, but we sure as hell bring the bacon and light the fire when we head south”). That is ALL happening tomorrow.

We actually won’t be going to SXSW this year. First of all, both of those Quebec parties are happening at the same time. I mean, I’m thrilled that Quebec has such a big presence at SXSW, but why split the vote like that? Second, my band is scheduled to play at midnight. But they live on a rock-and-roll schedule, so they’ll take the stage late. Which means I’ll be tired and cranky and just wanting to go to sleep in a nice, comfy bed. You know you’re getting old when your favorite band’s schedule doesn’t suit you!

There are so many things going on at that festival, though, so many bands and parties and movies, that we really should go at some point. But trying to find out the specifics is like trying to count the hairs on your dog, there’s just way too many. Am I overwhelmed because I’d be a first-timer, or is this a normal reaction?
